Some settings and management processes are responsible mostly for this inconvenience. The user himself can solve this issue easily by finding the actual reason.

If the issue still needs to be solved even after resetting your camera or the exact reason can’t be found, then you should contact the Blink Support Centre.

They can assist you in fixing your camera’s motion detection system.

7 Causes That My Blink Camera Not Detecting Motion

Cause 01: Network Issue

Sometimes, Wi-Fi network issues can create problems with not getting motion detection notifications, as Blink’s camera needs a Wi-Fi network to operate all its services.

Misplacement of Wi-Fi routers, not having a proper connection, and poor weather can cause network issues.

This may result in Blink cameras not detecting any motion and not sending any notification regarding motion detection.

Solution: First, check whether the Wi-Fi connection is working or not. If the Wi-Fi connection is working on your other devices, then the main problem can be with your Blink camera.

Check whether the power connection with the router is connected properly or not.

Unplug the router with a power connection and plug it in again after some time.

You should talk with your service provider immediately if there is a network issue.

Cause 02: Limitation of Camera Range

Limitation of Camera covering the Range

Blink Camera has a specific range of motion detection capabilities. The built-in maximum coverage range of the Blink camera is 20 feet from the camera.

Blink cameras can’t detect motion beyond this range. If the target object is beyond this range, it can’t detect the object’s movement.

Solution: You need to set your camera within the limited range of 20 feet to set it at a perfect distance from the targeted area.

Also, you have to ensure that there is no obstacle between the object and the camera so that you can have a clear view of the motion.

If you have already adjusted your camera beyond the limited distance, the you need to fix the position by re-adjusting your camera setup.

Cause 03: Lack of Battery Performance

The battery performance may affect the motion detection operation of the Blink camera.

Almost all the Blink cameras need non-rechargeable batteries of AA 1.5-volt Lithium.

Generally, these batteries are usable for Blink XT2, Blink XT, or XT1.

When the batteries of the camera become old enough to perform well, it may cause problems in motion detection. Also, it causes the cameras to go out of charge rapidly.

Solution: There are two common solutions.

  1. If the battery performance is getting worse, keep it up, then you can buy a new set of batteries. Make sure that the batteries are AA 1.5.
  2. Use a USB cable to connect the Blink camera with a 1A USB adapter. Your USB port can help you run the Blink Mini camera.

Cause 04: Disarmed Camera

The disarmed camera is unable to send notifications of motion detection as it deactivates the camera feature.

Disarming mode turns the camera into a passive mode, which doesn’t give access to sending notifications.

This mode is useful when you don’t need unnecessary notifications of the motion detection.

But also it may cause harm to your security system in emergency situations.

Solution: To ensure your camera is armed, follow this 3 step method.

  1. First Install the Blink Camera app.
  2. Go to the Sync Module of the upper bar.
  3. Switch your camera mode to Armed by toggling the “Armed” mode. Your camera will be switched from disarmed to armed system easily.

Cause 05: Night Vision Settings

Blink cameras have a system for night vision that enables them to record at night or in daylight.

This system can be manually controlled to have a vision of nighttime.

This system uses LEDs to get the view even with less lighting.

Sometimes, Blink cameras can have issues recording night motion detection for manual settings or problems with the IR LED illuminator with which this system works.

Solution: Check and change these 3 settings if your camera is not detecting motion at night.

  1. Check the manual settings of Night Vision to see if it is active or not. Use the illuminator to detect motion at night.
  2. Change the settings of Night Vision to Auto Control so that it can work automatically when it is dawn.
  3. Check your camera’s sensitivity setting and fix the sensitivity so that your camera can clearly detect objects in a deemed-lighted environment.

Sometimes, the misplacement of your camera may hinder the clear detection of nighttime motion. You should check the position of your camera in a low-light environment.

Cause 06: Inappropriate Configuration

The inappropriate configuration of the Blink camera affects the actual and important motion detection.

Misconfigured cameras have an inaccurately targeted zone to detect motion, so that is not so important to have notification of motion detection.

There may be some private zones that should not be detected for movement alerts.

These unnecessary as well as personal zones can be covered by Blink camera for misconfigured issues.

Solution: Follow these 5 steps to configure your Blink Camera properly.

  1. Get the Blink app and open the camera settings.
  2. Go to the Motion Settings option
  3. Then, select the necessary zones that need to detect motion.
  4. You can also point out the unnecessary inactive areas that need not be notified for motion detection.
  5. Change the entire configuration of your activity zone settings and save it.

Cause 07: Faulty Camera Sensitivity Settings

There is an inbuilt system for controlling the sensitivity of the Blink camera.

It may have issues with motion detection if the sensitivity management remains faulty or wrong. So, it is important to fix it properly to get the notifications regularly.

Solution: To fix the sensitivity settings, follow these 4 steps

  1. First, go to the Blink app on your mobile phone.
  2. Then go through the Camera Settings and then open the Motion Settings option.
  3. You will find a bar to fix the sensitivity.
  4. Select the sensitivity range according to your need.

You can increase or decrease the sensitivity level at your convenience. To ensure clear and effective detection, you must fix the sensitivity at a higher or lower range.

If you can’t find out the reason for not detecting the motion of your Blink camera and no other solution is working for you, then there is the last option you can think about to eliminate the inconvenience.

The final option to resolve the issue is factory resetting your camera system. You can also reset the system by Sync Module.

To reset your Blink Security Camera follow these 3 steps

  1. Turn on your camera first.
  2. Find out the reset button of your camera. The reset button’s location is dependent upon the camera model. Generally, it is located on the underside or backside of your camera.
  3. After getting the reset button, hold the button until the camera turns off.

It will reset the entire system and set the camera to default. You must back up important history, as resetting camera settings removes all the previous records.

Why is my blink camera not detecting motion far away?

Your Blink camera may have “Disarmed” mode, so it is not detecting motion. A Blink camera is set disarmed by the default system.

The disarmed camera can’t detect motion. The camera range of motion detection is also an issue here, as it does not detect motion beyond its range.

The limited range of a Blink camera to detect motion is 20 feet. That is why, it can’t capture motion beyond 20 feet.

So, it should be positioned well so that it can detect the motion of the targeted area within its range.

Why is my blink camera not detecting motion at night?

There is a night vision system in Blink cameras. The system uses an IR illuminator to detect objects at night time.

This system can be turned off or on manually. Blink cameras may have issues detecting motion because of the turned-off night vision mode.

Problematic Infrared rays or LEDs may also cause this issue.

There may be obstacles between the camera and the object, which hinders detecting motion at night time.

Why is my outdoor blink camera not detecting motion?

There may be an issue with the camera sensitivity settings. You need to fix the sensitivity range to the circumstances.

The motion detection option can be turned off, which prevents your outdoor camera from notifying you of the motion detection.

Turn on the armed system to ensure motion detection.

It may also have faulty or unusable batteries that don’t work properly to capture motion. Change the battery or try the USB port instead.

Why is my Blink outdoor camera not picking up motion?

Wrong adjustment of your Outdoor Blink camera may hinder in picking up motion.

You need to align your camera towards the targeted area so that the camera can have a clear view of the zone.

You also need to set the privacy zone covered with a grey area.

Try the Blink app to set the activity zone to detect the Outdoor Blink camera more specifically.

Why is my Blink indoor camera not recording motion?
