Hate Thy Brother\,” a cycle of documentary narratives that looks at into
lerance and its consequences.\n\nA member of Magnum since 1972\, his wor

DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce that Slideluck Potshow will be co
llaborating with this year's LOOK3 Festival in Charlottesville\, VA. For
those of you who are unfamiliar with LOOK3-- it is definitely one of th
e best things going in the photography world these days.\n\nThe LOOK3 Fe
stival of the Photograph is a 3-day celebration of photography that take
s place from June 11th-13th in Charlottesville\, Virginia. The weekend w
ill be filled with gallery exhibits\, outdoor projections\, Masters Talk
s presentations\, workshops\, and special events-- including SLPS. Much
like Slideluck\, LOOK grew out of the last 20 years of backyard slidesho
w parties of wildlife photographer and National Geographic editor-at-lar
ge\, Nick Nichols. Perhaps what is more significant\, in terms of our mu
tual synergy\, is the unique sense of community\, intimacy and appreciat
ion that comes out of a photography gathering that is driven more by hum
an connectivity than anything else.\n\nThe three featured artists\, this
year will be Sylvia Plachy\, Martin Parr\, and Gilles Peress. There wil
l also be a number of other great workshops (James Nachtwey\, David Alan
Harvey\, Brian Storm) exhibits (Pictures of the Year International\, Wo
rld Press Photo) and Masters Talks (Callie Shell\, George Steinmetz\, Ph
illip Toledano.) Charlottesville is a bucolic and historic little colleg
e town located about 2 hours west of DC. There are direct buses from bot
h NYC and DC and more information can be found on the <a href=\"http://w
 ww.look3.org/2009/about_us.html\">LOOK3 website.</a>\n<b>\nSubmit your w
ork to SLPS Charlottesville!</b> This slideshow will feature emerging an
 d established photographers and artists. Photojournalists\, painters\, f
ashion and fine-art photographers all present work alongside one another
in a relaxed and spirited atmosphere. We are currently seeking cohesive
 \, creative\, and thought-provoking submissions.\n\nPast contributors to
Slideluck Potshow include: The Guggenheim Foundation\, Elliott Erwitt\,
  Todd Hido\, Elinor Carucci\, Martin Schoeller\, Alec Soth\, Chris Buck\
, Spencer Tunick\, Martin Parr\, Nina Berman\, Vincent Laforet and many
others.\n\n<b>The deadline for submissions is Monday\, May 25th and the
submission guidelines can be found <a href=\"http://network.slideluckpot

SUMMARY:INsight Conversation: Martin Parr with John Gossage
DTEND;TZID=US/Eastern:20090612T180000
DESCRIPTION:MARTIN PARR is arguably Britain’s most important contemporar
y photographer\, with a unique perspective and unmistakable style\, and
a critical and popular following in the worlds of art\, fashion and jour
nalism.\n\nInspired by his grandfather\, Parr studied photography from 1
970 to 1973\, taking on various teaching assignments through the early 1
990s. Switching to color in the early 1980s\, he documented the English
working class during the era of Thatcher\, earning an international repu
tation for his innovative imagery. “I suppose I started to make a critiq
ue of society as it is\, rather than a celebration of what it used to be
.”\n\nFor Parr\, the moral atrophy and preposterousness of our daily liv
es means we can only find salvation through adopting a certain sense of
humor. As an insightful commentator on commercial culture and social lif
e\, he has revitalized and repositioned contemporary documentary photogr
aphy.\n\nA member of Magnum since 1994\, Parr has published over twenty
books and been widely exhibited around the globe\, including MOMA NY and
Tokyo\, the Tate Modern\, Stedelijk Museum\, and the Bibliothèque Natio
 nale.
