Festival guests will find photography shows literally everywhere: in the trees, projected in windows, on the sides of buildings, and of course, in all the galleries. Our goal is to transform Downtown Charlottesville into a “Living Image.”

2 INsight CONVERSATIONS - THE PARAMOUNT THEATER  
 
NPR correspondent Alex Chadwick and Time Director of Photography MaryAnne Golon will engage our three legacy photographers in conversations about their lives and careers behind the camera. These intimate one-on-one interviews will take place each night in the historic Paramount Theater accompanied by projections of the artists' work onto a giant screen

2 TREES
 

Widely regarded as the world's premiere photographer of whales, Flip Nicklin's majestic undersea images will be suspended high in the trees along Charlottesville's pedestrian mall.  On Wednesday, June 11th, Flip will be on hand to give a special presentation. (7-8:30pm, tickets available at The Paramount Theater)

2 PAGES
 

Every evening experience the year's best images from international newspapers and magazines, including National Geographic Magazine, The New York Times, GEO, The New Yorker, Smithsonian, Time, and more than fifty others.  After dark, these images will light up in storefront windows and on a large outdoor screen at the center of the Downtown Mall.

2 BOOKS
 

LOOK3 celebrates photography publishing by presenting 50 choice books from 2007 and 2008. Curators Leah Bendavid-Val and Darius Himes pay tribute to innovative collaborations between photographers and publishers, presenting an intriguing array of enormously diverse titles being produced today. Selections include works by photographers Alec Soth, Stephen Shore, Richard Misrach, Daido Moriyama, Luigi Ghirri, Boris Mikhailov, Alex Webb, and many more, with publishers Steidl, Nazraeli, Phaidon, Hatje Cantz, Aperture, Fraenkel Gallery, and others. Books will be on display to inspire both seasoned and aspiring bookmakers.

2 YOURSPACE
  YourSpace is where Festival attendees can print, display, and project their own work for others to see. This creative and collaborative exhibit is at the heart of the LOOK3 mission to share and inspire. Canon representatives will be on-site to make prints from digital files and technicians will be available to help guests build digital slideshows for projection. New in 2008, Apple will present free instructional sessions of Aperture software each morning. Seating will be limited and signup for these Aperture classes will be located in YourSpace at the registration/check-in table. Located in CCDC in the Market St. parking garage, YourSpace will begin accepting and displaying photographs on Friday, June 6th at 5:30 pm. We will be accepting and printing work during the Festival during these hours: Thursday, June 12: 9am-7pm. Friday, June 13 and Saturday, June 14: 9am-9pm.

This years theme is:
snap·shot ('snap-,shät) n. an impression or view of something brief or transitory.

Yourspace gallery requirements:
Please submit up to two prints, no larger than 16x20" in size. Stubblefield Photo Lab on Harris St. is accepting files for printing prior to the Festival at normal prices. Visit http://www.stubphoto.com/ to order prints.

Those interested in submitting digital files to be printed onsite by Canon should bring one or two color corrected, full resolution jpgs on CD or USB flash drive.
2 MASTERS TALKS
 

Hear great stories and see outstanding images in the historic Paramount Theater. This year we are delighted to present talks by Gerd Ludwig (courtesy of Canon USA), Jeff Jacobson & Nubar Alexanian, Brenda Ann Kenneally, Maggie Steber, and David Alan Harvey who will discuss and show their latest projects. David Alan Harvey will also announce prize winners of his Emerging Photographers Fund. Additionally, Sam Abell and Julie Blackmon will share the stage with curators Leah Bendavid-Val and Darius Himes to pay tribute to innovative collaborations between photographers and publishers as part of our BOOKS exhibition.

2 APERTURE CLASSES
  All classes taught by Martin Gisborne, Worldwide Product Marketing Manager - Aperture. (with guest discussions from top photographers Vincent Laforet and Steve Winter)
**Please indicate if you will bring your own laptop or use one of the class laptops provided.

1) Aperture for Beginners** - Learn the basics of Aperture from start to finish — from ingesting photos on a memory card, hard drive or DVD to selecting and comparing images, to making precise image adjustments, to final output on the web or in print. In this class you'll learn everything you need to know to take images from the shoot all the way to final delivery.

2) Aperture Advanced** - Take your Aperture experience even further. Learn the in-depth power of Aperture's metadata to take your archive into the future. See how Aperture's flexible interface and tools can be customised to fit your workflow. Look under the hood and tune up your Aperture world. Even if you're an experienced Aperture user, you'll learn new secrets and shortcuts that are sure to improve your workflow.

3) Aperture Integration and Multimedia Storytelling** -Telling picture stories has grown more dynamic and complex in recent years, with more and more photographers combining photos, sound, music and video to present their work. Learn how easy it is to make Aperture the hub of your storytelling toolkit and see how Aperture integrates with iLife and iWork applications for rapid multimedia authoring. First 20 sign ups for each class will have a laptop to use but there is room for up to 50 people. All attendees are welcome to participate. To get the most out of the sessions, bring your own laptop. (If you don't have Aperture, go to http://www.apple.com/aperture and download the free Trial version.)

In addition you should bring either of the following:

A hard drive (USB or FireWire)
A memory card and appropriate USB or FireWire card reader
CD or DVD ROM

either of the above containing up to a 100 images from a shoot (not selects) and preferably in RAW format.

2 LOOK3 THEATER
 

New for 2008, multimedia projects will be shown on a large screen in an intimate setting. This dynamic 3-hour program features provocative and deeply moving work. Participants include: Aurora Photo, Daylight Magazine, Lightstalkers, Magnum in Motion, MediaStorm, Metro Collective, NY Times, The Raw File, and Women Photojournalists of Washington.

Revel in amazing photography in this unique setting - an abandoned warehouse transformed by images and audience.
